KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar moved on Thursday his pre-arrest bail application before the anti-terrorism courts’ administrative judge in a case that seems to be the second-last case he has to secure bail in.

As many as 39 cases were registered against the mayor. However, he has obtained bail in 37 up till now. The order on the 38th has been reserved and will be announced on November 16. The 39th case story is a bit complex as he is not yet shown arrested in it. However, he believes that the arrested slot was deliberately left blank to arrest him again when he is finally released from jail.

The case is about the ‘incendiary and hateful’ speech of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain and Akhtar has been accused of facilitating and appreciating that speech.

Akhtar’s lawyer contended that his client is likely to be released from jail as he has obtained bail in nearly all the cases against him.

He expressed apprehension that the police might re-arrest his client in that case after he is released from jail on bail.

The administrative judge referred the bail application to the ATC-I judge for disposal.
