Farah took to Twitter to make the announcement officially. “Maybe a good day to announce that Om Shanti Om is being made into a huge musical in Japan!” she tweeted, tagging Shah Rukh, Deepika and Arjun Rampal in her post. She also uploaded a poster of the upcoming play.
The poster shows two Japanese actors recreating a still from the original film, which featured both Shah Rukh and Deepika in double roles. The movie marked Deepika’s debut in Bollywood, while Arjun played the main antagonist. Om Shanti Om got a big release in Japan in 2013, although another Bollywood biggie – superstar Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger, also released in the country in the same year.
Meanwhile, Farah thanked the film’s fans for giving it love even after nine years of its release. “Thank you all for wishing us #9YearsOfOmShantiOm 2day!! It’s beautiful to know this film is celebrated somewhere every day @iamsrk, thank you,” she posted.
Om Shanti Om was the second collaboration between Farah and Shah Rukh, after 2004’s Main Hoon Na. They re-teamed in 2014 for Happy New Year which, once again, starred Deepika as the female lead. Shah Rukh is also producing Farah’s upcoming directorial venture.
