Melania Trump has maintained a low-key presence throughout the long and grueling campaign of her husband, Donald Trump. As of yesterday, she is now the First Lady of the United States of America. Here is your guide to everything you need to know about Melania.



Becoming Mrs Trump:

On January 22, 2005, Melania became Trump’s third wife and stepmother to his four eldest children – Donald Junior, Ivanka, Eric and Tiffany. For the wedding, which was reported to have cost $1 million, she wore a John Galliano for Christian Dior Couture wedding gown. The dress, embellished with 1,500 crystals and comprising a 13ft train, took 550 hours to complete. The following year, in March 2006, Melania gave birth to their only son, Barron William Trump, whom she refers to as Mini Donald.

Meeting Donald Trump

It was after moving to the US full time that Melania met Trump in 1998. She is rumored to have taken Donald Trump's number instead of giving her own. “As if I give him my number, I’m just one of the women he calls,” she recollected afterwards.
He proposed to her in 2004 and they married a year later at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Palm Beach estate.

Modelling career

Melania Trump became runner up in a Slovenian Look of the Year modelling contest, after which she moved to Milan four years later in 1992 to model full-time since she had signed with a modelling agency back in 1988. New York became Melania's destination in 1996, where she kick started her career by taking part in different fashion shows and modelling campaigns. America's first lady has appeared on the covers of American Vogue Bulgaria, Ocean Drive, GQ, New York Magazine, Vanity Fair Italia, Allure, and InStyle Weddings. In 2000, she was featured as a striking bikini model in the 2000 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. In addition to this, Melania is fluent in five languages:  Slovenian, Serbian, English, French and German.

Early childhood
Melania Knavs was born on April 26, 1970, in Novo Mesto in southeastern Slovenia which was then a part of Yugoslavia. Her father, Viktor, was a car salesman and her mother, Amalija, was a pattern maker. Since early childhood, Melania had her mind set on pursuing a modelling career. Therefore, after completing a year in the University of Ljubljana, she dropped out and set-off on a journey that would soon after lead her to her modelling ambitions.
