Peshawar student turns down degree

The VC turned down the request and the student left the stage without being given his degree

PESHAWAR: As a sign of protest, Nabi Shah, a student of Journalism and Mass Communication University of Peshawar, refused to receive his graduation degree from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Wednesday.

Terming the governor ‘corrupt’, he requested Vice Chancellor Rasool Jan to give him the degree.

The VC, however, turned down the request and the student left the stage without being given his degree.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Shah said that the civilians paid the price of the political conflict between the two parties and no one raised their voice for the rights of the students.

As many as 470 graduates including 45 PhDs were awarded degrees in the University of Peshawar Convocation 2016. Besides, 25 outstanding graduates were conferred gold medals in the ceremony.
