Into the real world: Contemporary age is of competition, says KU VC

Gold medals distributed to position holders of science faculty

KARACHI: Faculty members of the University of Karachi (KU) are responsible for enhancing the academic and research skills of students, said KU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser.

Our meritorious students can play a pivotal role in addressing the current uncertainty in our society, he said, adding that contemporary age is of competition and only those individuals can succeed who are sound and competitive in their fields. He was addressing a gold medal distribution ceremony to position holders of KU Faculty of Science at the Dean Faculty of Science Council Room.

Qaiser advised the students to always safeguard the honour and dignity of their varsity even after entering their practical life. He congratulated the parents of the students as well. "You are the ambassador of KU," said Qaiser, addressing students. Science Dean Dr Syed Afrozuddin also congratulated the students and their parents. He added that now they [the students] are entering their practical life and the real competition of life begins from this point onwards. "They have to uplift the name and prestige of their parents and university," he said.



Students who received gold medals are: Hina Baig from agriculture and agribusiness management, Shumaila Moin from botany, Zehra Haider from biochemistry, Faizan Ansar, Dur-e-Shahwar Gul, Nuzhat Parvez, Atika Saud from chemistry, Fariha Mateen from genetics and Qurratulain Hyder from mathematics.

Fakhrun Nisa from chemistry received two gold medals for getting the first position and highest marks in analytical chemistry while Mehwish Shabbir from chemical engineering also received two gold medals for getting the first position in the department and also an overall first position in the entire faculty.
