PESHAWAR: People in Fata are still conceptually blank in terms of human rights, said Abdul Latif Afridi, a veteran lawyer belonging to the ANP.

“Women are the worst victims of the barbaric Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR),” he maintained.

He was addressing the participants of a seminar arranged by Takra Qabailee Khwendy (TQK), a forum for tribal women, to discuss women’s rights in Fata region.

Stressing the need for immediately merging Fata into Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, he said that it was necessary for constitutional protection of the people’s rights.

The speakers said that the region was without any institutions, infrastructure or markets.

“Even people from the tribal regions are languishing in IDP camps,” they said.

Leaders of various political parties, especially the ANP and PPP, attended the session, explaining their party’s stance on Fata reforms.
