The Lahore High Court has sought the assistance of the attorney general on a petition by Jahangir Tareen seeking disqualification of Premier Nawaz Sharif over alleged involvement in offshore businesses. The PTI leader had filed the petition, submitting that the Panama leaks confirmed the massive corruption of the ruling family. He argued a reference was filed against PM Nawaz with the National Assembly speaker but the former dismissed the reference instead of referring it to the election commission. The petitioner said the PM had no grounds to hold public office after Panama leaks as he no longer qualified under articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution. He requested the court to set aside the order of the NA speaker regarding reference against the PM and to order the election commission to disqualify the premier.
