Natural habitat: Kanwal Lake being restored

Rahim added the project would cost Rs20 million and will be completed by November 30

MULTAN: Kanwal Lake, a part of Lal Sohanra National Park, which was closed a few years ago, will reopen soon to serve as a natural habitat for the wildlife, particularly the migratory birds, and a recreational spot for the people.

Chief Forest Conservator Ajmal Rahim said this on Thursday.

He said the department was engaged in the process of cleaning the lake area and installation of sheds and other facilities as per international standards.

He added the project would cost Rs20 million and will be completed by November 30.

Ajmal maintained small islands would be developed inside the lake, while huts will be built for the visitors.

“A zoo, park, boating facility, chairs and tables are being installed, while construction of wash rooms is also in progress,” he said.

Besides, he further said the lake was being filled with water from a canal. The chief conservator pointed out a three-kilometre-long metal road approaching the lake had been built and trees were planted on both sides.
