Singer and animator Usman Riaz has helmed the project, utilising crowd-sourced funding together with a traditional approach to creating his feature film. Thanks to a 1,053 generous people who donated to the artist’s fundraising campaign on Kickstarter, The Glassworker generated a staggering $116,000, which was more than double the funds Riaz had hoped to collect.
In an interview with The Express Tribune, Riaz earlier said, “Pakistan really has no hand-drawn animation industry as such. With The Glassworker and our studios, we hope to lay the foundation and support a whole new generation of artists.”
The seamless animation in the trailer will leave you in awe. The upcoming film has been produced under the banner of Riaz’s brainchild, Mano Animation Studios. It begins by introducing viewers to a young boy named Vincent who is currently learning the art of glass-blowing from his father.
The rest of the film follows the story of Vincent, as he falls in love with a girl who visits his father’s shop frequently. As the trailer plays on, one can hear Vincent’s friend Alizay read out a letter that she had sent to him. The Glassworker thereby chronicles the lives of the two lovers during their formative years and sees them attempting to sustain their relationship as their respective circumstances become increasingly complicated.
