The murder was the result of an old family feud and not a targeted killing, police said.
They quoted Khan Bahadur, a resident of Kailag village, as saying that his brother-in-law, Sajid Khan, was a lecturer of Mathematics at Abbottabad University of Science & Technology in Havelian.
On Tuesday, he was heading home in his car after Maghrib prayers when Mughal Khan, Mubashar Khan, Basharat Khan, Khurum Khan and Humayun Khan allegedly opened fire on him.
The victim died on the spot. The complainant said the murder was the result of an old family feud between two families.
