LAHORE: The body of a two-year-old boy missing since Sunday was found in a sewer near Bund Road on Tuesday.

Abdul Rehman, son of Adnan Shabbir of Miraj Park Begum Kot, had gone missing from outside the family’s house on October 23. A kidnapping case (Section 363 of Pakistan Penal Code) was registered with the Lower Mall police against unidentified suspects.

Investigation Officer Sub-inspector Abid said some children playing on Yaseen Street spotted the victim’s body floating in a drain and informed the family. A large number of people from the nearby localities gathered at the spot, creating panic in the neighbourhood.

Police and rescuers were called to the spot to retrieve the body, which was shifted to a morgue for an autopsy. Police have collected forensic evidence and recorded statements of the eyewitnesses.

SI Abid said the boy’s family refused to initiate any legal action and told police that their son had accidentally fallen into the open manhole and no one kidnapped or murdered him. They also refused the post-mortem examination of the body, which was handed over the family for burial.
