Bangladesh call up two rookies for second England Test
Mosaddek Hossain, Shuvashis Roy are in 15-man squad for final Test
DHAKA:
Bangladesh on Monday included two uncapped cricketers - Mosaddek Hossain and pacer Shuvashis Roy - in their 15-man squad for second and final Test against England.
Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said Mosaddek was included as a backup to Sabbir Rahman, who has fallen ill after putting up a valiant fight in Bangladesh's 22-run loss in the opening Test that ended on Monday in Chittagong.
Sabbir was left stranded on 64 as Ben Stokes claimed two wickets in three balls to seal the thrilling contest on the fifth day.
Bangladesh hope Chittagong marks a Test turning point
"Sabbir was feeling sick after the match,” said Minhajul. “So we needed someone as a backup in case he cannot play."
Mosaddek, who has a good track record in domestic first-class cricket, played five ODIs against Afghanistan and England but he has yet to win a Test cap.
Shuvashis replaced pacer Shafiul Islam, who has been rested.
Beaten but unbowed, Bangladesh plead for more Tests
“Shafiul played all three ODIs and the first Test after coming from injury, we thought he needs a break,” said Minhajul.
The second and final Test will start in Dhaka on October 28.
