KARACHI: For its first style awards, Hum TV is gearing up to set the stage for the biggest talents of Pakistan. From A-list nominees to power-packed performances, the makers are leaving no stone unturned as it aims to create history.

But is a star-studded lineup enough to woo an audience? Director of the show Nida Butt tells us what it takes to put up a grand show.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Nida said, "I was offered the role of Show Director by Hum TV, and I accepted to do it. We have created the show from scratch and have hired two choreographers to work under me, Ghani and Wahab."

Being their first collaborative effort, Nida listed down the risks (if any) involved in executing a show like theirs.

"Hum TV has staged award shows before so they are experienced in the handling and operations," she said, adding, "My company has been producing and directing live stage shows for a decade; so hopefully between the two teams, we are minimising any risks or issues.”

"Having said that, live shows always have a degree of unpredictability for the very reason that they are live. Let's see how the cookie crumbles," she added.

The glitzy night will include three dance performances and a live performance of an original number composed by Hamza Jafri. To top it off, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will also work his magic.

Of these dance performances, we will be seeing two rock powerhouses, Meesha Shafi and Umair Jaswal, shaking a leg for the first time on stage together.

Nida revealed her criteria of pairing up performers, saying, "When finalising programming, we keep in mind the talents of the artists and work with those, rather than against it."

Such grand shows come with its share of highs and lows and the one thing that our industry really needs to work on is punctuality.

Nida guarantees that her audience won't leave the venue till the finale only if "they show up on time”.

"Punctuality is definitely an issue at award ceremonies in Pakistan. Most of them start several hours late and leave the audience feeling deflated even before it's begun," she said, before adding: "Want a show to start on time? Then show up on time!"

"I can tell you that it's going to be an electric dance performance starring two favourites of the Pakistani entertainment industry. Prepare for a splash of colour and lots of energy."

Nida has definitely increased our anticipation and expectation and we can't wait to see what the show has to offer.

The red carpet of the first Hum Style Awards is set to roll out on October 28.
