ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will begin hearing this week a ruling party leader’s petition for de-seating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers who turned in their resignations during the opposition party’s sit-in 2014.

The petition -- filed by a former leader of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz -- may not have figured in the Supreme Court’s final cause list but it made an appearance through a supplementary cause list.

Similarly, legal experts said that the apex court’s fixing of the case on October 27 was significant in view of its fixing November 1 for hearing the Panamagate case, a day before PTI’s planned Islamabad protest.

The SC registrar’s office also served notices on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif; PTI chief Imran Khan, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah and all PTI lawmakers.

No specific bench has yet been assigned to hear the case, but it is expected that case will be heard by the chief justice himself.
