Scores of Public Works Department (PWD) of Gilgit-Baltistan staged a protest demonstration on Thursday, demanding release of their salaries.
“We have not been given our salaries for the past four months,” said an employee, joining the over 300 protesters.
They took to the streets and disrupted traffic for two hours, burning tyres and blocking the city’s main road.
“We want our salaries, our right,” they chanted, along with other slogans against the government.
The police diverted traffic from Ittehad Chowk to the Hospital Road.
The protesters were those working in various departments of PWD, on contract basis in grade up to 4. Employees of Wapda also took part in the strike.
