An official of the Ministry of Science and Technology, who requested anonymity, told The Express Tribune that a few months ago, Minister of Science Rana Tanveer Hussian had directed all departments working under the Ministry to submit their performance reports for the past two years.
Only the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), Pakistan Council for Science & Technology (PCST) and National University of Science and Technology (NUST) have submitted their performance reports, said the official.
Meanwhile, the National Institute of Electronics (NIE) submitted a report containing just one sentence, stating that they were in loss because their total income was less than expenditures, the official maintained.
The Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) also submitted an incomplete report, just mentioning their projects, said the official.
According to him the following departments have not yet submitted any report: COMSATS, Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET), National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) and Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
‘It seems these departments … are hiding poor performance or lack anything worth mentioning. Soon first reminder will be sent to these departments,” said the official.
The report aims at finding out the amount of revenue and determining issues and challenges affecting their performance, he said.
“Currently the Ministry wants all 13 departments functioning under it to focus on revenue generation besides improving their performance,” he said.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ministry, Mohammad Ashraf, said a meeting would soon be held to discuss the issue.
