Disabled cricket: Pakistan fall 21 runs short

Lose to England in opening match of ICC PD T20 tourney

KARACHI: Despite Nihaar Alam’s all-round performance, Pakistan Disabled Cricket Team lost the opening match of the ICC Academy PD T20 Cricket Tournament to England PD Cricket
Team by 21 runs at ICC Academy Cricket Ground yesterday.

After opting to bat first, England posted a formidable total of 170 for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs as man-of-the-match Callum Flynn struck 10 boundaries and two sixes en route to a 52-ball 76, Ian Nairn contributed an unbeaten 69 off 40 balls.

Pakistan’s left arm pacer Abdullah Ejaz took three wickets for 26 runs.

Jahanzaib Tiwana named Pakistan captain

Chasing 171, Pakistan fell 22 runs shorts as they were restricted to 149-8 despite a half-century by Rehan Ghani Mirza (50 off 24 balls) and Alam’s unbeaten 29 off 21 balls.

England bowler John Mcad, Fred Bridges and Callum Flynn took two wickets each, giving away 21, 41 and 18 runs respectively.



“We tried our best to beat England but they are a very strong team and we are glad to come this close to victory,” captain Jahanzaib Tiwana told The Express Tribune. “We will try our best in the next game against Bangladesh to win and not repeat the mistakes we committed in this game.”
