Usman Peerzada to turn Rafi Peerzada’s ‘Namoos’ into film

LAHORE: Late veteran playwright Rafi Peerzada wrote the script for his play Namoos more than 60 years ago. Following in his footsteps, his son, actor-director Usman Peerzada, is set to release a film adaptation of the play. Talking to The Express Tribune, he shared the shooting for the film will begin early next year and his main aim is to rope in young talent from across the country.

Usman is finalising the script and has started working on the music for the film. The team is currently looking for suitable locations to start shooting. “We are working on three films at one time but my aim is to release Namoos first. I took this project up in order to continue my father’s legacy with the film,” Usman said. “Namoos will also be a mega budget film and be shot using modern technology.”

Stating it will be a romantic-thriller, he shared, “I feel that today’s film viewers want to see romantic films. Most of the films that have been released in recent years are love stories and they have attracted large audiences.”

According to Usman, he has no specific actors in mind and the cast will be chosen on the basis of whoever fits the roles perfectly. “We will not only cast popular names from the industry. We plan to get young and fresh actors on board as well,” he added. In the same light, he feels it is important for local film-makers to take advantage of the ban on Indian films in the country.

“It is a good time for us to work on our local cinema and also build more digital cinemas so there are no issues of unavailability of screens in the future. Following the ban on Indians films, those associated with the film industry are suffering financial losses but we can survive through hard work,” stated Usman.
