Beaconhouse: setting the record straight

Letter October 19, 2016
It incorrectly mentions the Beaconhouse National University instead of Beaconhouse School System

KARACHI: I wanted to bring to attention that the Op-Ed written by Muhammad Hamid Zaman that was published in The Express Tribune recently on the “Punjabi issue” has an additional problem. Not only does the writer wrongly accuse the enterprise in a myriad ways by suggesting that it views the Punjabi language as “foul” but it incorrectly mentions the Beaconhouse National University instead of Beaconhouse School System! These are two entirely different entities.

BNU is run by a not-for-profit foundation headed by Shahid Kardar, Vice-Chancellor (former Governor State Bank), and has a completely independent board of governors including Dr Parvez Hasan, Shahid Malik, Moeen Afzal, etc. For the first 10 years, the VC was Sartaj Aziz. Beaconhouse is one of the donors, but others have contributed significant sums of money, too — such as Hussain Dawood, Dr Parvez Hassan, and the Punjab Government.

Tabraiz Bokhari,

Head of Corporate Communications, Beaconhouse School System
