ISLAMABAD: The newly-constituted Pharmacy Council of Pakistan (PCP) has decided to amend its act in line with current international standards and to uplift the professional standard of pharmacists through a stringent monitoring mechanism.

The decision was taken after new council members were administered their oaths of office.

Dr Hashim Popalzai, Additional Secretary, Ministry of National Health Services Regulations & Coordination administered oath to the newly constituted council members of PCP in the ministry. After the ceremony, PCP members elected Dr AQ Javed Iqbal as its vice president.

PCP is the regulatory body established under Pharmacy Act 1967 to regulate the practice and education of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

Members of the council took many vital decisions in this meeting, including strict regulatory monitoring of institutions imparting pharmacy education, drafting a roadmap to build the professional status of pharmacists, and amending the Pharmacy Act, 1967 in line with current international standards.
