QUETTA: The gas supply to Balochistan was restored after a damaged pipeline near Dera Murad Jamali was repaired on Thursday.

According to a Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) official, Inayatullah Ismail, SSGC started supplying 130 mmcfd gas to Balochistan after repairing the 18-inch diametre pipeline that was blown up thrice this month.

Ismail said the SSGC supplies a maximum of 145mmcfd gas to Balochistan every winter, of which about 110mmcfd gas is acquired from the Sui gas field and the remaining from other gas fields in Sindh. SSGC curtails 30 mmcfd gas from KESC, Jamshoro and Kotri power plants to meet the demand of Balochistan.

Meanwhile, people staged a demonstration on the RCD highway near Mastung on Thursday morning, disrupting the Quetta-Karachi traffic. Protestors condemned the suspension of gas and power supply and urged the government to restore the supply immediately.

Traffic remained disrupted for hours, stranding a large number of people on either side of the highway.
