Malnutrition

Letter October 17, 2016
The government should take notice of the issue to fight hunger

TURBAT: Like other parts of the world, Pakistan can also relate to World Food Day on October 16. Unfortunately, Pakistan has an alarmingly high level of malnutrition. Some estimates place this figure at approximately 40 per cent of the population. Every year, thousands of people are dying of hunger while a huge amount of food are wasted due to lack of proper management and disposal of leftovers. The problem of food wastage has affected food security for the poor. Lack of care often results in poor people also receiving low quality, stale, and sometimes even spoiled leftover food. Food continues to be wasted at restaurants and weddings. Organisations say that most of the population affected by food insecurity includes children all over the world. The government should take notice of the issue to fight hunger, raise incomes and improve food security so that no one dies or even suffer from hunger.
