MULTAN: Federal Secretary for Industries and Production Khizar Hayat Gondal has assured that a full-fledged regional office of SMEDA would soon be established in Multan, to facilitate the people of southern Punjab.

He stressed the need for increasing the contribution of the industrial sector to the country’s GDP. Currently, the industrial sector contributes around 2.08% to GDP and is a major source of tax revenue, apart from creating job opportunities.

Speaking at a meeting of the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Gondal said that the government has planned and implemented comprehensive policy measures to revive the economy.

In his welcome address Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi, who also chaired the meeting, said new industrial estates must be developed in southern Punjab.

Export processing zones and a help desk of SMEDA should be established in Multan to facilitate the people, said Roomi.
