The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing of Aasia Bibi’s final appeal against her execution in a blasphemy case for an indefinite period.

Committing blasphemy in the ‘land of pure’


With Pakistan divided over whether to retain or abolish the blasphemy law, misuse of the law – especially to target minorities – continues in a society already split along sectarian and religious lines.

According to 2014 statistics by National Commission for Justice and Peace, a total of 494 Ahmedis, 187 Christians and 21 Hindus have been accused under various clauses of the Blasphemy Law since 1987.
