With Pakistan ready to play their first Test against the West Indies on Thursday in Dubai, Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin commented on leg-spinner Yasir Shah, who is nearing 100 wickets in Test cricket.

In the historic 400th Test for Pakistan, the 30-year-old leggie has the chance to become the fastest Asian bowler to claim 100 Test scalps – a record currently held by Ashwin.

International Cricket Council’s top bowler in the longest format achieved the feat in 18 matches, whereas Yasir will be playing his 17th Test for Pakistan later today.

In a reply on Twitter, Ashwin showed support for the Pakistani spinner saying, “Good luck, may the force be with him [Yasir].”

The all-rounder added that Yasir is “a delight to watch”.

Currently, the Swabi-born bowler has a tally of 95 wickets from 16 Tests.

The record for the fastest to 100 wickets is held by England fast-bowler George Lohmann, who achieved the milestone in just 16 Tests.
