Mehdi Hassan recovers in AKU intensive care unit

The famous classical singer recovered after remaining unconscious for three days.

KARACHI: Legendary singer Mehdi Hassan on Thursday recovered after remaining unconscious for three days in the intensive care unit of Agha Khan University Hospital in Karachi.

According to Mehdi Hassan's son Arif Mehdi, the singer woke up in the morning after three days.

The 85-year-old ailing singer was brought to the hospital after suffering from a chest infection and kidney problem.

He underwent a series of tests including an MRI and CT scan.

Arif Mehdi told the media that his father's treatment was costly and so far they have spent Rs300 million.

He made an appeal to the government to financially support the singer’s family.

Mehdi Hassan is a Pakistani ghazal singer and a former playback singer for Lollywood famously known as the 'King of Ghazal'.

Speaking at a recent event, Urdu poet Zehra Nigah praised Mehdi Hassan saying that he is one of those artistes in history who established a separate school of art.

“All of his ghazals are complete and comprehensive pieces and are the best amalgamation of music and singing,” she said.
