Rizvi, along with two other persons, was critically wounded when two armed men riding a motorcycle attacked them near a majlis venue late Friday night in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The incident occurred minutes after the killing of a trustee of an imambargah in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The trustee was killed while his young son was wounded when armed motorcyclists targeted them while they were on their way home from a majlis.
Police investigators have used forensic analysis of the empty shells recovered from both the crime scenes and have confirmed that the same group was behind both the incidents but law enforcers have yet to trace and arrest the culprits responsible.
Rizvi was admitted to Aga Khan University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment early Tuesday. His funeral prayers were offered at an imambargah in Ancholi Society and later he was laid to rest.
Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen strongly condemned the incident and demanded the arrest of the culprits. "The series of targeted attacks on people belonging to the Shia community, despite tall claims by police and Rangers of security arrangements, raises questions about the steps taken by law enforcers," said the organisation's spokesperson.
