As the tiff between the two former captains took a new turn, Shahid Afridi has asked Javed Miandad to withdraw from match-fixing allegations or face legal action.

Miandad, earlier in the day said he had forgiven Afridi for his controversial remarks, which he made during a book launch event on Sunday. “I am hurt with what he [Afridi] said, but I will forgive him,” said Miandad, who earlier accused Afridi of match-fixing.

Reacting on the legendary batsman’s statement, Afridi welcomed his initiative but asked Miandad to withdraw from the match fixing allegation. “Javed Bhae has pardoned me? Thanks. But has he withdrawn his allegations, what has he got to say to that?” Afridi tweeted.

“Nothing matters more to me than playing for my country with pride, no one can accuse me of selling my country. Else, I’ll have to seek answer and justice to clear my reputation in court,” he added.

Afridi was planning to send a legal notice to Miandad on Thursday after Ashura holidays.

Miandad, who was the part of the 1992 World Cup winning eleven, and played crucial innings in the semi-final and the final, then accused Afridi of match fixing. “I challenge Afridi to swear upon his daughter and say that he didn’t sell Pakistan’s matches,” said Miandad.

Pakistan cricket team chief selector Inzamamul Haq showed his disappointment over the whole controversial episode.

“Both are respectable players and have served this country for a long period of time, so it is very unfortunate that this incident took place.”
