KARACHI: Former Pakistan T20I captain Shahid Afridi has decided to take legal action against legendary batsman Javed Miandad, who made match fixing allegation against the 36-year-old on Sunday.

Afridi, who represented Pakistan in 398 ODIs, 98 T20Is and 27 Tests has decided to send a legal notice to Miandad on Thursday, a source confirmed The Express Tribune.

The exchange of comments and allegations began when the veteran all-rounder made remarks about Miandad during a book launch event on Sunday, in which he claimed that money has always been an issue with the 59-year-old, which separated him from World Cup winning captain Imran Khan.

Afridi tears into Miandad

Miandad, who was the part of the 1992 World Cup winning eleven, and played crucial innings in the semi-final and the final, then accused Afridi of match fixing. "I challenge Afridi to swear upon his daughter and say that he didn't sell Pakistan's matches," said Miandad.

According to reliable sources, Afridi and his lawyers are going through video clips and will send the notice after the end of public holiday this week. “Afridi and his lawyer are watching clips of Miandad and his allegation thoroughly, and will be sending the required legal notice on October 13 as the offices remain close on 9th and 10th of Muharram.”

Earlier, Miandad reacted to Afridi’s comments regarding his relationship with Imran by saying, “Afridi is no longer in demand, which is why he his making such remarks. As far as the difference between me and Imran Khan is concerned, fans know more about it and they are the better judge.”

Imran expresses concern

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman has expressed concern over the recent mudslinging between Miandad and Afridi.

“I am sad that they are talking with each other at this level,” Imran told Samaa TV. “Miandad was the player who always stood for the team in the hour of need.”

If they really want to take this to some conclusions, it's better to talk in private. They played for so many years which earned them name & respect in the cricketing world, they must avoid these petty talks in live shows. Our hungry media will always ready to go to new lows by providing a platform to vent anger at each other and giving a chance to the world to mock at us.
