Babar Azam, Mohammad Nawaz selected for Windies Tests
Veteran opener Mohammad Hafeez and left-hand opener Shan Masood snubbed
Pakistan chief selector Inzamamul Haq on Saturday announced a 15-man Test squad which will take on West Indies in a three-match series in the UAE starting from October 13.
Middle-order batsman Babar Azam, who scored three consecutive centuries against the Windies in the ODI series, was able to make his way into the five-day squad.
"We are expecting good performances from Babar after he displayed his prowess in the ODIs," said Inzamam.
Moreover, left-arm all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz was able to make his cut into the national squad.
"We have selected Nawaz by looking at his first-class credentials as a batsman," said Inzamam.
Veteran opener Mohammad Hafeez and left-hand opener Shan Masood were not able to make it into the final 15.
Answering a question, Inzamam also clarified that no player was being discarded and every one will get his fair chance.
"Iftikhar [Ahmed] has not been discarded," he replied. "We are not discarding any one. We haven't discarded Imad [Wasim] as well. We cannot give a chance to all the players at once."
Former captain said that the squad was selected after "taking suggestions from the captain and the head coach".
Earlier, Pakistan whitewashed Windies 3-0 in the T20I and the ODI series.
