One-year programme: Microsoft to train 30,000 students in IT
TEVTA signs mutual agreement with software giant
LAHORE:
Microsoft will train 30,000 students in one year to equip the youth of Punjab with information technology skills and increase
their chances of getting better jobs.
Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said this while speaking at the signing ceremony of an agreement with Microsoft on Friday.
Irfan and Microsoft Country Enterprise Director Abid Zaidi signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) at Tevta’s secretariat.
Microsoft and Tevta will launch an assessment drive for students to create awareness among them about the skills required to get into the fields of business administration and management.
Along with their regular training programme, the students will also appear in Microsoft examination and will be certified as Microsoft specialists.
Irfan said the training curriculum would be designed keeping in view the needs of the local market and industry. “The integrity of all programmes will be assessed and validated through Microsoft Office Specialist Examination to ensure a common standard in outcome,” he said.
The partnership of TEVTA with Microsoft will be in line with the policy guidelines set for training the youths in IT.
Currently, Irfan said, the courses were part of the Diploma of Associate Engineer (DAE) courses but Tevta will also introduce short courses, including a one-year and a two-year diploma shortly.
The courses will be taught at all Tevta institutes for which teachers will also be trained. More teachers will also be hired if required.
