Some analysts have commented that this meeting is just a bluff
KARACHI: This is with reference to the news item, “Tax amnesty package to be tabled in NA” (October 6). This was bound to happen. Property sector players and other crooks have succeeded in compelling the government to table before the National Assembly another tax amnesty bill (the fourth in the past three years) to whiten their black money. It seems that those who pay taxes honestly are morons who must be regretting why they pay taxes at all, as those who have looted the country are always rewarded. It should be noted that in the recent tax amnesty in India, black money holders paid 45 per cent of evaded amounts to whiten their black money. The Supreme Court should immediately take suo-motu action and order the government to either whiten black money at the rate of 45 per cent or refund all tax money paid over the past many years by honest Pakistanis.
