SARGODHA: A man has been awarded the death penalty for murdering a rival over a personal enmity last year. District Sessions Judge Tariq Javed announced the verdict on Thursday.

According to the prosecution, Muhammad Usman of Jahlar Village and his three accomplices named Gul Muhammad, Khuda Bukhsh and Yar Muhammad gunned down Muhammad Iqbal over an old enmity in Noshera police precincts.

The incident took place on February 5, 2015. Police registered a case against the attackers and submitted the charge-sheet in court.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge sentenced the main accused to death and also imposed a fine of Rs500,000, which would be given to the aggrieved family as part of compensation. The court, however, acquitted the three co-accused over lack of evidence.
