At around 7:45am people in the surrounding area took notice of thick black smoke coming out of Kings' Bakery. On receiving the information, the owner and fire tenders rushed to the scene and opened the shutters of the bakery, but the fire that had already gone out of control, forced them to maintain their distance. After an effort of two hours, the fire tenders managed to douse the flames, by which time everything had been reduced to ashes, said a fire brigade official.
Sukkur Hindu Panchayat president and owner of the bakery Mukhi Eshwar Lal told The Express Tribune that the people in the area said that in accordance with the schedule, the power supply in the area went off at 5:45 am and was restored at 7:45am.
"Huge voltage fluctuation was observed in the first two to three minutes after the restoration of power supply which may have resulted in the short circuit," said Lal, adding that he had established the bakery a couple of months back and estimated a loss of around Rs5-6 million.
