Religious harmony: Ulema urged to promote peace

ISLAMABAD: Speakers at a seminar on Tuesday urged  religious scholars (ulema) to promote inter-sect harmony, tolerance and peace among their followers. Participants at the seminar  on “Inter-sect harmony, religious tolerance; its impact on society” organised by the Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue at the International Islamic University, Islamabad, stressed  that Quran and Sunnah were the only means for the solution of all sectarian differences. The seminar was attended by  renowned ulema, scholars and intellectuals from twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. They said that it was need of the hour to discourage and condemn the distribution of printed material and literature which might cause  sectarian strife.  Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, IIUI president, said that the varsity was  playing a key role in promoting inter-faith and inter-sect harmony. It was the responsibility of all religious scholars no matter which sect they represented to work for religious unity and harmony he added.
