PM Nawaz reviews progress on NAP implementation

Meeting of National Security Committee to follow

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is chairing a meeting on the National Action Plan against terrorism in Islamabad.

The meeting was convened to review coordination between federal and provincial law enforcement agencies along with security agencies regarding the implementation of the NAP.

National Security Adviser Nasir Janjua briefed those present on the occasion. Each item on NAP was discussed separately in detail, according to a statement released after the meeting.



Further, all those present at the meeting agreed that collective efforts at national level and specific efforts at provincial level were required to consolidate the gains made so far and move further in certain areas where progress has been unsatisfactory. The NSA also stressed the role of provincial governments in the implementation of NAP.

The meeting agreed on the future course of action in terms of milestones and timelines for different components of NAP.

Claiming that there has been significant and visible improvement in the country's security situation, PM Nawaz said, "We are fighting a war on terrorism and our fight against violent extremism as a national policy imperative. The nation expects us to rid the society of these evils for all times and we will not fail them under any circumstances."

A meeting of the National Security Committee will follow the aforementioned one. All chief ministers will be present on the occasion.




Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to formulate a unanimous response on occupied Kashmir and the situation along the Line of Control (LoC).

“Kashmiris and Pakistanis are inseparable. We will leave no stone unturned to highlight Kashmiris’ plight across all international forums,” the premier told parliamentary leaders during a high-level huddle on the continuing tensions with India. “We stand united on matters of national importance, particularly Kashmir.”

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leader Farooq Sattar and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Shireen Mazari were among those present on the occasion.
