Babar Azam selected for Windies Test series

21-year-old scored back-to-back centuries in ongoing ODI series in UAE

LAHORE: Middleorder batsman Babar Azam has been included in the upcoming Test series against West Indies, starting October 13 in the UAE.

One selector confirmed to The Express Tribune that the selection committee has decided to include the 21-year-old in the squad for the five-day format as a result of his commendable back-to-back centuries in the ongoing ODI series.

Babar is expected to replace all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed, who was the part of the winning team in the last Test on England tour.

The selection committee has also decided to evaluate the fitness of the veteran opener Mohammad Hafeez before the Test series, and therefore included him in the three-day tour match match against the Carribean side, which will begin from October 7.

All-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is also expected to be included in the squad as an additional player to provide back up for spinners Yasir Shah and Zulfiqar Babar.

The final squad is expected to be announced by October 8.

Amir Shahzad | 8 years ago | Reply Good decision but what wrong Iftikhar Ahmed has done to be replaced even before getting a fair chance in the game. We want to build a team for the future so why not get rid of one of the oldies to get young goldies.
