Identification Parade: Rape suspect sent on judicial remand

Police had registered a rape case and arrested a suspect on Thursday

ISLAMABAD: A judicial magistrate Saturday granted 14-day judicial remand of a man who had allegedly raped a woman in the capital. The suspect, identified as Naseer, was arrested by the Margalla police on Thursday for allegedly forcing a woman into his van and raping her near the Fatima Jinnah Park on September 24. Police had registered a rape case and arrested a suspect on Thursday. Producing him before Judicial Magistrate Jawad Hussain Adil on Friday, police said that while the suspect in question had not been named in the FIR but there was sufficient evidence which connects him to the crime. Officials added that the suspect had confessed during questioning though they are still waiting for the DNA test results. The investigation officer for the case requested the court to grant judicial remand so that he could be included in an identification parade. The court accepted the request and gave police custody of the suspect for 14 days.
