JHELUM: The district administration in Jhelum has set up peace committees to promote sectarian harmony in the region.

Also citizens have been asked to strictly follow the official security guidelines during Muharram, DPO Malik Sikander Hayat said on Saturday.

“People need to realise the importance of security in the wake of terror threats and follow the prescribed schedule and route of the Muharram processions,” he said.

To promote harmony, peace committees have been set up by the district administration.

DPO Hayat said that these committees will comprise ulema and zakirin of various schools of thought and will be tasked with promoting sectarian harmony.

Outlining the guidelines, the official said people belonging to the fiqah jafria will have to deploy more volunteers on security duty, while no congregation will be allowed to be held in open areas. Furthermore, anyone wishing to participate in these congregations will have to submit to searches before being granted entry to the venue.

Moreover, the top cop of the district said that routes of the mourning processions will be sealed with vehicles and barbed wires and that no one will be allowed to pass after the given time.
