Pakistan Army denies capturing Indian soldier along LoC

Media reports claim soldier from 37 Rashtriya Rifles inadvertently crossed over to Pakistan side of LoC

NEW DELHI/ ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army denied on Thursday reports that it had captured an Indian army soldier alongside the Line of Control (LoC) near the disputed Kashmir valley.

The military’s media wing, ISPR, when contacted, denied that an Indian soldier was in Pakistan Army's custody.

The development came in the wake of rising tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours following an unprovoked cross-border firing from the Indian side of the border which left at least two Pakistani soldiers dead. However, the Indian military had dubbed the action as “surgical strikes” against militants on the Pakistani side of Kashmir.

"It is confirmed one soldier from 37 Rashtriya Rifles with weapons has inadvertently crossed over to the Pakistan side of the Line of Control," Reuters had quoted an Indian army official as saying. He said such incidents of people including civilians crossing the frontier by mistake have happened in the past from both sides and those who strayed are returned.

Saad | 8 years ago | Reply Indian media hyped the whole situation so badly that the government had to come with a ploy such as this so-called surgical strikes. After all, there are elections just after 3-4 months in important states of India and anti-pakistan card is what BJP normally plays in order to secure success. Since now they have convinced themselves that they have carried out this successful surgical strikes, Let's hope that this will appease the normal Indians and they will vote for Modi again. Thinking strategically, currently, Modi is the best man for Pakistan to lead India as the Prime Minister. His war mongering attitude will surely put some halt to Indian economy and his radical Hidnutva ideology will turn the non-Hindu population against him. From the outside, it'd look like that Modi is steering the nation from the abyss of poverty to towards boom of development but it will slowly crumble them due to his extremist mindset. One example of it can be seen when India offered significant monetary "aid" to Vietnam in order to tackle China when India was struck with the calamity of flood. This move was met with criticism even from within India. So this is what an emotional and radical mindset does when given authority. Focus on rhetoric instead of long term plans. Keep the crowd under control by using nationalist slogans. So if it was in my control, despite being a Pakistani I'd have funded Modi's campaign. We need this kind of person for good 10 more years as an Indian Prime Minister.

harkol | 8 years ago | Reply Dawn is reporting Pakistani forces 'unofficially' admitted having the soldier in their custody. @Jawad U Rahman: Per Indian military, the Solider was captured in an area where Indian troops didn't conduct the strike. You can chose to disbelieve everything Indian army says, but track record suggests, it is a little more credible than Pakistani army.
