Muslim woman throws acid on husband for remarrying

A Muslim woman allegedly threw acid on her husband after finding out he married another woman, leaving him seriously injured in Indian occupied Kashmir.

According to station house officer (SHO) Bani, Suresh Gautam, Shamima Akhtar threw acid on Mohammed Din, her husband of 10 years, with the help of her daughter and two other individuals.

While Akhtar too was injured, her husband suffered severe burns in the attack. "Both the accused and the victim were rushed to the sub district hospital Kathua from where the husband was rushed to Government Medical College hospital in critical condition," the SHO said.


Further, a case has been registered against the woman who will be arrested after being discharged from the hospital. The woman’s daughter has also been booked. “A case has been registered and investigation initiated,” the officer said.

Acid attacks, which overwhelmingly target women and children, are a particular scourge in Southeast Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, the West Indies and the Middle East.
