QUETTA: Protestors blocked the Quetta-Chaman highway on Monday, demanding that the government resolve the gas and power crisis in the province.

Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying NATO supplies vehicles are stranded because of the blockade.

A call for a strike had earlier been given by the Balochistan National Party (BNP) and the Kuchlak Action Committee.

Baloch insurgents have intensified their attacks on vital gas pipelines and power transmission pylons in recent days, depriving the entire province of power and gas facilities for days and causing losses worth over Rs100 million to the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).

As many as 10 gas pipelines, including two high pressure pipelines, and four power pylons of 132KV and 220 KV transmission lines were blown up within the last week.

The gas pipelines are six to eight thousands kilometers long and supply gas to 12 districts and 29 small townships of the province. The remaining 18 districts have no gas facilities.

Ashiq Khan Achakzai | 13 years ago | Reply This demonstration was against Baloch insurgents who have made the life of every one a misery. This includes all Balochs , brohi , pashtuns and settlers. This had nothing to do with BNP, which does not have any existence in Pashtun areas. We would request the Army chief to go all out against these foreign paid touts who are themselves hiding in UK, Switzerland and Dubai, but are using poor people as their tools. These cowards are getting fat on the foreign and stolen money and cannot face the problem themselves. Down with these FOREIGN TOUTS.
Thanks Baloch | 13 years ago | Reply Thanks to the all the Baloch brothers. Really good to see so nice commetns by our Baloch Brothers like Usman. @ mir baloch Nobody considers Baloch as second class citizens. It is right now Punjab which is suffering the most due to gas and electricity shortage. Nobody disagrees that Balochistan should be provided it's gas and electricity according to it's needs since it is also the part of Pakistan and if Balochistan would be prosper I would be happy since Pakistan is prospering... Thanks Usman again.
