ISLAMABAD:
Islamabad police will deploy 5,000 security personnel to guard various gatherings on the eve of Muharramul Harram in the federal capital.

According to sources, police have finalised a comprehensive security plan for the processions and religious gatherings.

In this regard the police will be launching search operations in different parts of the city, including those inhabited by Afghan refugees to ensure foolproof security. Rooftops of buildings surrounding the procession routes will be covered by police officials while women police will be deputed at the gatherings.

Islamabad IGP Tariq Masood Yasin directed all wings of the police to ensure coordination amongst them for the success of this plan. Rangers and the members of the Frontier Constabulary will also be assisting the police.

SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiyani had met with all the relevant stakeholders and chalked out a security plan. Following the meeting, it was decided close liaison would be maintained with peace committees and organisers of the congregations and processions.

More than 900 religious gatherings and over 175 processions are expected to be held in the federal capital.

SSP Kiyani directed the police to book anyone disrupting law and order during Muharram.

He said action would be taken against organisers if they diverted from the set routes and timings. Similarly, action would also be taken against those using extraordinarily loud speakers under the Punjab Sound System (Regulation) 2015.

The sources said that the SSP has ordered that all those wishing to participate in gatherings will be checked by using walkthrough gates at the entrances.

Law enforcers have also been directed to stay vigilant for those who have been named in the Fourth Schedule and inform the relevant police station in case of they move outside the city.

The SSP asked for effective patrolling and the use of commando vehicles as part of the arrangements. Furthermore, Patrolling officers have been directed visits of all the routes and Imambargahs.
