LAHORE: After gaining mainstream acclaim for her Coke Studio debut, singer Naseebo Lal has belted out a cover of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s song Gin Gin Taare Langdiyan Raatan.

However, this is just the beginning for the Dukhi Dil Mera crooner. Looking at the response to the track, she has decided to put out an entire album, paying tribute to the late qawwali giant.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Naseebo said she has chosen different tracks sung by Nusrat at different stages of his career and the videos will be shot in the two cities that were closest to his heart – Faisalabad and Lahore.

“The album will be released after three months. The idea is to acknowledge the work of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and honour his contribution for our country. Although I do not have resources like those of Coke Studio, I am trying to give my cover songs a similar feel,” she said.

Interestingly, the songs are being done at Sargam Studios, the place Nusrat called his second home. According to Naseebo, the recordings are being held in the same room that Nusrat used to work on his music. Even the musical instruments being used are those used by Nusrat himself. The songs for the album have been finalised by music director Raza Shah and songwriter Altaf Bajwa.

Naseebo sang Gin Gin Taare Langdiyan Raatan alongside Ali Faraz who will also be assisting her on the album. Speaking about the song, she shared, “I released the song on social media and luckily, many people have liked it. I am trying to rework the song for my album and sing it in Nusrat’s melodious style and give my own touch to it. He was a legend and I cannot come close to him, but I will try my best.”

Before her appearance on Coke Studio with Umair Jaswal, Naseebo was hesitant to feature in music videos. However, the platform has helped her gain confidence. “After gaining popularity on Coke Studio, I decided to work on an album. I have always wanted to pay tribute to Nusrat sahab and I thought this is the best time to do so.” Naseebo added, “I have recorded many songs at Sargam Studios, so it is not new for me. But the fact that I am singing Nusrat’s songs this time, I want to give my 100%.”

After Coke Studio, Naseebo also visited India to meet several Bollywood directors and decide upon taking up projects there.
