ISLAMABAD: The Punjab Power Development Board (PPDB) has invited Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the pre-qualification of sponsors to develop the 135MW Taunsa hydropower project.

The EOIs have been sought from private sponsors for development of the project whose updated feasibility study has been completed in July this year.

The project would be developed by the private sector as an Independent Power Producer (IPP). As per the details, the PPDB has set October 20, 2016 as the last date for submission of updated Statements of Qualification (SOQ).

The private sponsors would be pre-qualified based on the criteria set-forth in Pre-qualification Document (PQD).

Only pre-qualified sponsors would be allowed to participate in the bidding process through a Request for Proposal (RFP) approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) under Competitive Bidding Tariff Regulations-2014.

The previously pre-qualified sponsors/applicants are also required to submit updated SOQ before the submission deadline. The Project Area of Taunsa Hydropower Project is proposed to be built adjacent to the existing Taunsa Barrage on Indus River, in district Muzaffargarh, which is about 30 km southeast of Taunsa town and is 120 km from Multan.

There are road and railway leading to project area as well.  The nearest town is Kot Addu, 10 km southeast of the site.

From the project area, it is about 420km distance to Lahore and 750km to Karachi. The road from Multan to project is asphalt paved and is generally about 7 metres wide.
