Line of duty: Injured police constable dies at LRH

Amjad Ali was injured in Sept 8 attack in Mathra

PESHAWAR: A police constable, who had been injured in Warsak Road bomb attack along with seven other policemen, succumbed to his injuries at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as constable Amjad Ali, a resident of Mohib Banda.

The attack took place on September 8 on Warsak Road near Darmangi within the jurisdiction of Mathra police station. The explosion left the mobile vehicle of Rapid Response Force (RRF) damaged. At least eight policemen travelling in the vehicle were injured.

“Ali was critically wounded in the attack and was in the ICU,” a police official deployed at LRH said. “He succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon.”

Attacks on police officials have been on the rise this year. Earlier, a police personnel was killed while three others, including a child, were injured in a roadside blast which targeted a police mobile in the city on September 4.

A traffic constable was shot dead in a suspected case of target killing in Peshawar on July 14.

On June 16, a policeman was killed and at least three officials injured in a roadside bomb attack in the city.

At least 1,210 personnel of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police have been killed in the war against militancy that has plagued the province with an iron grip since 2006.

Between then and now, the largest number of police officials have died in Peshawar.
