HARIPUR: Residents of Choee Khanpur village in Haripur flayed the political leadership over its failure to give due attention to an acute water shortage that has plagued the region over the last two months. They also blamed officials of the public heath engineering (PHE) department for not taking measures to address their grievances.

Raja Waheed, Aslam and Malik Naeem, who hailed from Choee Khanpur village, told the media over the telephone that the tubewell of their village has been out of order. This has exposed residents to a water crisis during the scorching heat of summer.

According to them, the pump of the tubewell was repaired and made functional on August 15 after several requests to officials of the PHE department. However, it ceased to function from September 11. When the locals went to enquire about the problem, they were told that the electric transformer powering the equipment had now burnt out.

Villagers said even the mosques were without water during Eid days, causing immense difficulty to the area with a population of around 2,000.
