International Food Festival: Flavoured by a melting pot of nationalities

ISLAMABAD: Food lovers had a field day on Saturday as Westminster School and College organised its much awaited event “The International Food Festival” in Islamabad on Saturday.

The school kids rejoiced in the rain, dancing to the beat of drums and holding placards with messages of cultural harmony inscribed on them.

A total of 27 food stalls were set up at the festival. Funds generated through the sale of food and entry tickets will be donated to the Imran Khan Foundation for relief of flood victims, the administration said.

Klocke, supervising the French stall, had put a special chocolate roll pratha on sale at her stall.

“This is the most delicious snack,” a visitor Imran Mukhatar said. But once she had the delectable-looking pancakes, Éclair and Quiche Lorraine at the stall, she was unable to make her mind about the best item at
the stall.

An Chong Mi, a student of the eighth grade and in-charge of the Korean food stall, said that to her surprise, many people visited the stall and were interested in things like dumplings, kim faf, kim chi, noodle mix and Kolyo tea.

Switzerland’s stall was a treat for chocolate lovers. The Turkish stall featured Turkish delights and baklava.

In-charge of the German food stall, Klaus Euler, said, “This is the first time this event is happening after 2007.” He added that the festival served a noble cause.

Jalal Khan, a Spanish student tending to the Spanish food stall, said he was finding it hard to attract visitors to his stall.

But Alina, with her Indian pans, had no such problems as people kept rolling to her stall, asking for more.
