Sometimes, just a short history lesson suffices

Journalist Nargess Moballeghi had the most epic response to a Facebook troll informing her that the Sharia did not permit women to drive and she should refrain from it.

"Why are you driving? Under sharia law where Islam was born, you are not allowed to drive. The freedom you are enjoying in the West came from Christianity, NOT Islam," Courtney Potter tweeted to Moballeghi.

In place of exchanging barbs with the troll, Moballeghi responded with a succinct history lesson. "Firstly, there were no cars 1,400 years ago; therefore it's not really Sharia law," she said.

Moballeghi went on to state that Islam had afforded certain rights to women well before they were introduced across Christian countries in recent history. The journalist went on to clarify that most Muslims did not subscribe to Wahhabism - which enjoys Saudi patronage.

She added that Wahhabism enjoyed the protection of western countries such as Great Britain and the United States in the form of "arms, money and diplomacy". Sometimes all it takes is a short history lesson to shut down a troll.

Twitter was all praise for Moballeghi's comeback:
