BANNU/SWABI: At least 38 suspects have been arrested in Bannu and security has been tightened in Swabi ahead of Eidul Azha.

Bannu DSP Tahir Shah told The Express Tribune the arrests were made during a search operation which was carried out to maintain law and order during the festive occasion.

According to Shah, the crackdown was jointly conducted by Quick Response Force and the police.

“Weapons were also seized from the suspects,” Shah told The Express Tribune. “So far, 16 pistols and two Kalashnikovs were confiscated from them.”

Shah added security has been tightened in Bannu.

“A security plan has also been formulated,” he said. “We have increased security on the outskirts of the city to prevent any untoward situation and ensure peace is maintained in the city.”

Chalked out

Swabi DPO Javed Iqbal said a plan has been chalked to ensure stability is maintained throughout the district. He was speaking at a news conference on Sunday to apprise citizens about the steps taken to guarantee security during Eid.

“A large number of police officials will be deployed across the districts to enhance security,” he said. “We have also increased security for mosques and the outskirts of the districts.” He added the five DSPs and 10 SHOs will supervise police personnel.
